BUILDING SCIENCELife Cycle Assessment of Solid Waste Disposal
Metro Vancouver has evaluated the comparative inputs and outputs of disposing of municipla solid waste (MSW) by either landfilling or Waste-to-Energy (WTE) processing.
The Sheltair Group conducted an LCA study - using regionally specific information describing the transport, landfilling, and WTEF operation - to determine the Life Cycle 'benefits and burdens' of these two major scenarios.
Factors evaluated include the energy inputs and outputs (heat, natural gas, biogas, electricity), vehicle fuel consumption, common air contaminants, and greenhouse gas emissions.
