Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of Organics Diversion in Metro Vancouver

The GVRD is evaluating the environmental, social, and economic impacts of diverting organic material from the solid waste stream. A life cycle assessment (LCA) was conducted by The Sheltair Group to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of several scenarios for organics diversion.

The scope includes all aspects of the waste system including material collection, composting and digestions technologies, disposal (landfill and WTE), and the subsequent effects of the diversion on the remaining waste management system.
