Building Science

Sheltair specializes in providing technical research, policy analysis and consulting services to enhance the health, comfort and durability of homes and buildings. We apply ‘house as a system’ principles to optimize performance in terms of energy, air flow and moisture management.

Throughout its history, Sheltair has been at the forefront of identifying performance issues facing the building industry, developing technical solutions and defining policy responses. Examples include Sheltair’s role in defining the magnitude and cause of BC’s “leaky Condo Crisis”, and our work to develop lifecycle assessment tools to assess the environmental impact of buildings. Currently, much of our work is on improving the energy performance of new construction, through design and commissioning services.

Our specialized expertise in building science includes:

  • Energy Audits and Building Commissioning: ensuring mechanical systems and building enclosures perform as designed to minimise costs and environmental impacts
  • Green Building Consulting Services: helping our clients identify opportunities to integrate green building standards into the design and construction of buildings.
  • Building Testing and Auditing: Ensuring buildings are safe, healthy and durable through testing of building systems
  • Green Building Design Guidelines: helping our clients develop site specific green buildings that work with local environment and policies
  • Policy and Market Research to Support Green Buildings: helping our clients develop business cases that support green buildings.
