About Us
The two-word definition of sustainability is 'one planet’."
–Mathis Wackernagel
The Sheltair Group is a Vancouver-based firm with a long history of developing integrated and sustainable approaches to urban planning, building engineering and resource management.
Our team of 13 professionals has a reputation for innovative thinking, technical expertise, and effective communications. By bringing together the right mix of skills and methods, we help our clients define and achieve their goals for sustainability, at all scales.
The Sheltair Group has a 25-year history of working with local and regional government, utility and private sector clients. The firm’s roots are in building science, particularly energy performance and life cycle assessment. Over the years, the firm has grown and expanded its services to include all elements of the built environment, from materials, buildings and infrastructure, to neighbourhoods, communities and larger urban regions.
Our broad scope and long experience increase our capacity for excellence in policy development, strategic planning, project management and evaluation.
Sustainability Commitment
Both Sheltair and Jacques Whitford as a whole have made substantial corporate commitments to sustainability, applying environmental policy to their day-to-day operations, and strategic planning. After appointing a full-time Vice President of Sustainability in 2006, Jacques Whitford became the first major engineering firm in North America to go carbon neutral as a first step in the overall goal of minimizing the firm's ecological footprint.
By focusing on sustainability it becomes possible to reduce operational expenses and product costs, improve reputation, increase margins, reduce environmental footprint, and reduce risk. This sustainability proposition works for Jacques Whitford in the same fashion as for its clients.
